Is Your Dog Panting Too Much?

We all know that our dogs pant. But can your dog pant too much? If your dog is panting all the time it could be a sign of an underlying medical issue.

Why Causes Dog Panting?

Here are some common reasons why dogs pant.

Heat

Dogs do not sweat like humans do. They do not sweat, instead they cool their body through their mouth and panting. Panting allows your dog to inhale, humidify and then exhale the air. This cools their boy from the inside out. On excessively hot days make sure your dog has plenty of water.

Stimulation

Your dog may pant heavily when he is stimulated or excited. This is normal behavior and not a cause for concern during the moment of excitement.

Being Stressed

Dogs will pant excessively when they are under duress or stress. Are they not engaging with communication? Do they avoid eye contact? Are the yawning or seem disinterested? These are all signs that your dog may be overly stressed. In these situations, try to place your dog in a safe calm environment.

Pain

Pain can cause your dog to pant. An examination by your veterinarian may be appropriate.

Heatstroke

Hot day with extreme temperatures will cause heavy panting in dogs. Heatstroke can occur and can cause death. Dogs that are unresponsive and are panting heavily should be taken in for medical care immediately.

Remember to never leave your dog in a hot car. Even on a mild day the temperature inside a car can rise rapidly even in as little as 10 minutes.

Normal Panting

If your observation is that your dog is panting more than normal or excessively, you should take him to the vet right away.

Panting can be related to the weather conditions. A resting do should never need to pant excessively.

Symptoms

If your dog seems listless with no appetite and is panting heavily this is a sign something is wrong. Let your vet know the systems to assist in making a diagnosis.

What to Do if Your Dog Is Panting Heavily

If you think something may be wrong with your dog here are some tips to take.

  • Put your dog in the shade and pour cool water from a bucket or hose over your dog.

Are You Hurting Your Dogs Feelings And Confidence?

In case you may not have already realized it, your dogs whole life revolves around you. Inconsistent or unwarranted action can harm his self confidence and his emotional wellbeing.

Dogs owners make several mistakes that are easily corrected once you understand how your behavior may be affecting them.

1.Rubbing Their Nose When Poop, Pee or Accidents Happens

Dogs usually know where and when to know where to go when nature calls. Dogs are easy to Potty train. On the occasion when an accident may happen (and they do) it is usually a sign of stress, a physical illness or just having to go.

Yelling at them and especially “rubbing their nose in it” is not the appropriate action to take. Calm correction and assurance is the ticket in these cases.

2. Exercise and Stimulation

Make sure you provide your dog plenty of exercise, playtime, and attention. Make time for your dog. Plants need to be watered or they wither. Time needs to be spent with your dog or the can emotionally with as well. Small playtimes and attention 10-15 minutes are better than no time spent nurturing your dog.

3. Scolding or punishing for fearful behavior

Shy or submissive behavior from your dog is not a situation for punishment or scolding, it is a situation for understanding why that emotion is being displayed and removing your dog from that situation. If your dog is afraid, they may become aggressive or withdrawn. Don’t punish your dog for being afraid, remove him from the situation.

4. Be Consistent

Always be consistent when you are setting expectations with your dog. When he does something that is a no-no train and correct consistently every time. Do not let the behavior go unnoticed one time and then punish the next time. This is confusing for your dog and he does not know what is expected.

5. Isolating Your Dog from His Family (The Pack)

You can do great harm to your dog by separating him from the pack (you and your family). His whole world revolves around his family and separation does not teach better behavior it installs fear and loneliness. The long-term effect of this is making your dog unsociable and unfit to belong anywhere.

Please remember your dog wants to be happy and wants to belong. Correcting bad behavior should be done with consistency, love, and firmness. NEVER with emotion or anger.

Hilarious Dog Tries On His Dog Shoes for the FIRST Time!

We humans really like our shoes. We have dress up shoes, casual shoes, shoes for exercising and even sandal shoes for casual or beach wear.

The only time Our K9 friends have typically interacted with shoes is when they are stealing them from the closet or or the bedroom floor to chew on them or take them in the backyard and bury them.

Watch this adorable guy trying on his first pair of shoes. He goes from curious, to cautious to what some would say a Clydesdale Horse.

Enjoy!

Hero Dog Rescues Owner From A Shark In California!

A 1-year-old pit bull named Darby is one very good boy as he bravely came to the rescue of his owner, who was bitten on the leg by a shark.

“He literally ran up the hill with it and pulled it off my leg,” James White said of his pit bull Darby

The horrifying incident happened when James White, of Rohnert Park, California, was fishing from the shore at Bodega Bay in Sonoma County, NBC Bay Area reported.

White had caught something on his fishing line and was struggling to pull in his catch.

“It was about 10 minutes,” White told NBC Bay Area. “The only way I think I was able to get the line back is because it was swimming towards me.”

Not until the fish was pulled on shore did White realize he had snagged a 6 foot long Shark!!

While trying to remove the hook from the shark’s mouth, but it quickly sank it’s teeth into his ankle.

Within seconds, White told NBC Bay Area “There was blood everywhere.”

“The first bite punctured an artery,”  “The pressure was intense.”

White began yelling for help.

That’s when is dog Darby, who was in the car, went into action.

Somehow the dog opened the car door and ran down the embankment to his owner. He first attempted to get the shark off of White by biting into the shark’s gills. However, that didn’t work as it caused the animal to sink its teeth deeper into White’s ankle.

Acting fast, Darby attempted then changed his approach and grabbed the shark by the tail.

White then tossed the shark by into the water.

From White “He’s been a part of the family from day one. Just now a little more. If it wasn’t for him I would have been a lot worse,”.

Some people found the story hard to believe.

“The first time I told somebody this, they were like, ‘You’re out of your mind, there’s no way that happened,’”.

“Then I showed him the pictures and I’m like, ‘No, it absolutely happened,’” White added of his brutal scars.
